Add the Proctorio Browser Extension

Before using online proctoring, you must install the Proctorio browser extension on the browser you will use to log in to Moodle and take the exam.

Proctorio works with browsers that are based on Chrome, like Microsoft Edge and Opera. They should all work fine with Moodle, although Proctorio currently recommends Edge.

This article shows you how to install Proctorio on each browser. The process is mostly similar, but the differences are highlighted in the different sections below.

If you don't have Chrome installed on your computer, go here first:

Install Google Chrome

Using Chrome, log in to your class and click on the Secure Remote Proctor icon.

Secure Exam Proctor link

The Secure Exam Proctor page gives you a report of your browser's readiness for your exam. Notice that it reports Chrome is installed. Below this should be a link to the Proctorio browser extension page. Click this link.

Microsoft Edge

Your computer running Windows 10 comes with the current version of Edge pre-installed.

The first steps to adding the plugin to Edge are the same as for Chrome. As with Chrome, start with the Secure Exam Proctor resource in your class. Once you click "" from the resource and go to the Chrome web store, you may be asked to click a link to "Allow extensions from other stores."

Also click on "Allow" on the window that opens.

A message telling you that you can now add Chrome plugins to Edge appears at the top, and the Add to Chrome button now appears on the page.

Another window will open confirming that you want to add the plugin to Edge. Click Add extension.

A final window pops open to confirm the plugin has been added.

You are ready to go! Return to your class to take your proctored exam.

You can download Opera for free at

The button to add your extension will appear on the page, but this one will say Add to Opera. Click it to add.

Click Ok in the confirmation window.

Next is an install page. Click Install to continue. This page will notify you about the types of access that Proctorio requires in order to work.
