Setting your email links in mySCC course rosters to open in your school email
Have you tried to use the "Email All" link in your mySCC course roster and been frustrated because it opened up the Mail app or Outlook on your computer instead of your school gmail account? Follow these simple instructions to fix this!
First, open Chrome and log in to your school email. On the right side of your address bar, click on the small icon that looks like two overlapping squares. Once clicked on and set (next step below), you should not see it again.
Select "Allow" on the small drop-down window that opens.
Once set, if you open mySCC on Chrome on that same computer, clicking on "Email All" or on individual student email links will cause your SCC email to open in a new tab in Chrome and the student email address(es) to be pre-populated in a new, blank email.
If you are not already logged in to your SCC email, you will be taken to the gmail login page first.
Your blank email will open with student addresses in the "BCC" (Blind Carbon Copy) address field, so each student will not see the addresses of the others.
- If you want your computer to do this regardless what browser you are in (IE, Firefox, Safari, etc), you also need to set Chrome as the default app to handle mail links. This has to be done in Windows or Mac OS system settings, not in browser settings.
- Setting Chrome as your default mail app and setting your SCC email as your default handler in Chrome must be done once on each computer that you use regularly.
- You cannot do this on public lab computers or any computer where you don't have access to change system settings.
- You can check to see if your copy of Chrome already has gmail set as the mail "handler" in Chrome settings. Just go to: Chrome Settings-->Advanced-->Handlers
