Posting a Syllabus File

To upload a syllabus file that you've created in Microsoft Word, you follow the procedure in Moodle for using the File resource. The first step in Moodle is to Turn editing on in your class. Click on the Actions menu (gear icon) in the upper right corner of your class page.

With editing on, select the the Add an activity or resource link at the bottom of the introductory section of your course content. Scroll to the bottom of the popup window and select the File resource at the bottom of the list of items. Click on the Add button below.

The settings page of the File resource should now be visible. You must name your file in the Name field. This name will be displayed to students on the course page. Below the (optional) description box is the Select files box. At this point, you can choose to drag and drop your file directly into the box, or you can click the Add link to search for your file on your computer to add it via a search window.

The File picker window should now be open. On this window, make sure the Upload a file tab is selected on the right, and then click the Choose File button. If the Upload a file tab is not highlighted in red, you must click on it first before you will see the button.

Having clicked the Choose file button, you should now see a File Explorer window (PC) or Finder window (Mac) allowing you to navigate to the location of the file on your computer. Once you've located your file on your computer via that window, double-click it to add it. This process is successful when you are returned to the File picker window and see the name of your file next to the Choose file button. If you are ready to upload. click the Upload this file button below.

You should now be back at your File settings page and you should see an icon for your file in the Select files box. Click on the Save and return to course button at the bottom. Congratuations!. Your syllabus is now available for your students to download from the course.
